Mountain Biking at Kumaun: The Himalayas of the Kumaon region must be one of the most picturesque in the country, with giant terrace fields straddling the green mountains.

The bicycling track is through flat valleys in the Almora district of the Kumaon Himalayas. The open valleys are scattered with little rivers, villages and small towns. The Journey begins at Bageshwar an important religious center famous for the temple of Lord Baijnath; this is a part of Binsar wildlife sanctuary.

A dense cover of Oak forests, which abounds in wildlife, commonly seen is leopards, barking deer and wild boar. The places on the way on this tour are Delhi, Kathgodam, Almora, Baijnath, Bageshwar, Kausani, Someshwar, Binta, Ranikhet, Bhatrajkhan, Garija, Kotabag, Kaladungi, Chorgalia, Kathgodam.

Tour Plan

DAY 01. ARRIVE DELHI

Meet Shikhar executive at airport on arrival and transfer to hotel in Delhi.

DAY 02. DELHI – KATHGODAM

Day sight seeing of Delhi visiting Qutab Minar, Humayun Tomb, Jama Masjid, Red Fort and Chandni Chowk market. Evening Transfer to railway Station to board the train for Kathgodam.

DAY 03. KATHGODAM - ALMORA

Arrive at Kathgodam in the morning and drive to Almora (87Kms.) (1638m). Day at leisure. Overnight at Almora. ALMORA: Picturesque district of Almora is a fine blend of mountain beauty; ancient cultural influences, sanctified spots, thickly wooded forests, scenic valleys, quaint cottages, crystal lakes and gushing rivers...... all inspiring one to call it the 'Switzerland of India'. Nearby places of tourist interest where an excursion can be made within a day are Bright End Corner's unforgettable sunset, Chitai temple with it's unique collection of brass bells of all sizes, gifted to the temple by devotees since centuries, Kasar Devi which houses many Europeans who fell in love with the place so much that they settle down, Nanda Devi Temple the cultural and religious center of Almora for now hundreds of years and Lala Bazaar a unique market of more than two hundred years with paved streets of stone.

DAY 04: ALMORA – BAGESHWAR (30KMS) - BAIJNATH (23 KMS)

Bageshwar 1965 M. - 30 Km from Almora has a dense cover of Deodar trees (a vanishing species of Himalayas Flora). This is one of the oldest Jungles with some trees as old as 300 Yr. old.

This is a fairly even stretch along the Gomati River. Baijnath is famous for a group of ancient temples and the Shakti temples of Kot (Lord Shiva-The Destroyer) are ten Km away. The forests are interspersed with ancient Shiva temples, unrivalled for its location. Overnight camp at the riverside.

DAY 05: BAIJNATH - KAUSANI (17 KMS)

A fairly uphill track to Kausani, with panoramic views of the Himalayan peaks, seen from the wide green valley of Katyiar. Kausani is 40 Kms from Almora with a 350 Kms stretch view of the High Himalayas. Overnight in the Camp.

DAY 06: KAUSANI - SOMESHWAR (12 KMS / BINTA 15 KMS)

Kausani to Someshwar is all down hill to the tiny hamlet of Binta in the middle of the Valley. Over night in the Guesthouse.

DAY 07: BINTA - RANIKHET (23 KMS)

The last bit of the day is a steep track, leading to Ranikhet (the Queens Garden). In yesteryears her highness was so impressed with the sight that she declared this little town as her own.

A small cantonment area garrisoned with the Kumaon Regimental centre with their history of Valour Triumphs, Ranikhet is also famous for the Botanical gardens of Chaubatia and the fruit orchards, the Hariakhan and the Kalika Temple. Overnight in the Holms Heritage Farm.

DAY 08: RANIKHET – BHATRAJKHAN

A down hill track takes you through various villages to Bhatrajkhan, enroute to Corbett national park. Overnight in the camps.

DAY 09: BHATRAJKHAN – GARIJA 63 KMS

Freewheel down the wilderness of the Corbett National Park along the Kosi River. Overnight in the Jungle resort Corbett park.

DAY 10: CORBETT - KOTABAG 23 KMS.

In Corbett an early morning Jeep safari into the forest, post breakfast cycle to Kotabagh through the dense jungles, Kotabagh is the small village on the foothills of Nainital. Overnight in the jungle resort.

DAY 11: KOTABAG - KALADUNGI 15 KMS.

A small village which has the Corbett museum and the house, once residence of Lt Col. Jim Corbett. Over night in the farm house.

DAY 12: KALADUNGI - CHORGALIA 30 KMS. - KATHGODAM

Through the gujjar villages situated amidst the thick Jungles, once the reign of the Famous Dacoit Sultana, giving the place its name. Afternoon drive to railway station Kathgodam to board the overnight train for Delhi.

DAY 13: DEPART DELHI

Morning arrive Delhi and check in the hotel for wash and change. Afternoon depart to airport to board the flight for onward destination.
