The Hindu community has a lot of religious festivals that are celebrated vibrantly throughout the year. According to the Hindu calendar, the dates of all the festivals are decided. Most of the festivals celebrate the marriage of Gods and goddesses and their birthdays.

Celebration of these festivals brings communities together and creates a bond of love and friendship.

Out of the various fairs and festivals, one such fair is the Shravan Jhula Mela which takes place in the holy month of Shravan according to the Hindu calendar. Shravan Jhula in Ayodhya has got significant importance among all the fairs of Uttar Pradesh.

Shravan Jhula Mela in Ayodhya begins on the third day of Shukl Paksh of Shravan Maas of Hindu Panchang.

Religious songs are enchanted and a number of cultural programs are organized in the fair. This festival celebrates the onset of spring and swings the deities lord Rama and Goddess Sita on the swing.

This swing ceremony is witnessed by a throng of people from all over India. In the evening, the deities are taken back to their temples and the ceremony continues till the end of Shravan Maas (month of Shravan). On the last day of Shravan Maas, which is also known as Sherwani Poornima and Raksha Bandhan; Shravan Jhula Mela disperses after taking a holy dip in the river Sarayu.
