DigiYatra – An initiative by Government of India towards Digitalisation
The government of India is on yet another mission to digitalize India. Coming up with its new venture The DigiYatra, is a promising step toward the next evolution of technological advancement.
Based on facial recognition technology, DigiYatra aims to uplift passengers’ seamless and paperless traveling experience using BEST (Biometric Enabled Seamless Technology).
With this new generation technology, it is expected that using facial recognition technology the entry of passengers would be processed automatically using all the points needed for example starting from the entry into the airport to security check areas and even aircraft boarding, etc.
This technology has multifaceted benefits such as the extinction of paper printouts of tickets or boarding passes, the passengers will save so much time by not having to present their ids at every checkpoint. This technology will make the entire boarding process truly seamless and visibly faster.
It takes only about three seconds to verify your identity at each checkpoint. The passengers do not have to carry their ID proof, PAN Card, Aadhar Card, Tickets, Vaccine proof, or even boarding pass. This also makes our security system significantly enhanced as there is no scope of fake id going non-detected.
The facial recognition is directly calibrated with the Airlines Departure Control System, which means that only the passengers who have booked good-lid seats can enter the terminal.
The whole procedure is non-intrusive and this process also reduces human workload leading to optimization of staff for staff work further reduction of human errors.
How will the citizens of this country benefit from the introduction of DigiYatra?
- This process will save time for passengers and reduce the percentage of people who miss flights due to marginal delays in arrival. The airport check-in and boarding times will be reduced.
- Due to the facial recognition system, passengers don’t need to carry their ID proofs which will ensure lesser misplacements of IDs and completely remove the risk of forgery of IDs.
- It also goes towards helping the environment as now the use of paper will become minimal, and everyone will travel paperless without needing printed tickets or boarding passes.
- There is a UID attached to the air ticket which ensures that a passenger can clear through all checkpoints at the airport through a smartphone. This acts as a digital boarding pass giving passengers a hassle-free experience.
- Having faced the wrath of Covid we understand the importance of keeping social distance, this initiative aims to reduce queues at all the checkpoints in an airport from entry to security and then boarding.
- Strong security implementation can take place using this technology, and identification of disguised cons can be made easily through facial recognition.
- The aviation security department will become more efficient as now they will have time for more prominent focus areas.
- The aviation department is looking to protect the data collected by the use of this technology, all the data sharing protocols are being followed and it is made sure that such data will not fall into the wrong hands or be misused.
This initiative started in the capital of our country which is Delhi, its airport is amongst the initiating few airports of the country to adopt DigiYatra followed by Bangalore Airport in a short while.
DIAL had already installed the required facility and has started conducting its trials.
Terminal 3 of Delhi Airport is now functional with more than thousands of passengers having experienced hassle-free and secure travel using the DigiYatra facility embarking on their journey.
This facility has been opened to all airline domestic passengers flying from Terminal 3 only. For this experience, they can download the application and register themselves before entering the airport for easy access to the process.
As of now, the beta version of the DigiYatra app is available at the Google Play store which is the Android platform. It is yet to launch on the IOS platform but is expected in a few weeks.
As of now, this hi-tech facility is made optional for passengers, they still have the option to travel traditionally by printing tickets, waiting in queue for security checks, and then collecting their boarding passes manually or just downloading the DigiYatra application and enjoy the seamless experience.
We believe that this is a revolutionary step towards the growth of digital India.
Implementing DigiYatra all over the country will make the air traveling experience one notch above right now. Soon the entire people of this country will opt for DigiYatra over the traditional methods.
